Our major focus in the coaching program has been in increasing the profitability of the Maintenance Department within GRK Plumbing. We have since seen a 100% increase in turnover, doubled the size of the team and brought on 2 new tradesman. The maintenance department is now a stand-alone profitable arm of the business.



Although I had spent 4 years becoming a mechanic, it was Rob who taught us budgets, cashflow forecasts, productivity and the importance of reports. Our business has improved as a result of his coaching because he has streamlined the administration side of the business so we can focus on our core business, looking after the customers and increasing profits.

I started with a business coach because my business partner wanted our business to go to the next level. I was not convinced we needed the coaching but decided to approach it with an open mind. The end result for our partnership was not what I expected.

The focus initially was on the understanding of the financials and getting them in order, starting some simple systems and measurements of Key Performance Indicators and getting the team around us in order, including accountant and bookkeeper as well as HR issues. These were basic business processes. The coaching provided great accountability for these as well as resources. There was also some focus on business building through joint ventures, with marketing plans to follow. Again basic drivers of a business. The understanding of these came easily, but the biggest benefit came from the accountability to do them. However, I became increasingly frustrated with the direction it was taking me, more importantly that it was not helping ME.

The real benefit to me came from the coaching process identifying that what I really wanted to do was different to my partner in business and that I was not happy in myself. The coaching process gave me CLARITY of my purpose and what I really wanted to do to serve people, and with this clarity came a need for mindset changes. I understood I had fears and blocks that were holding me back. I understood that the partnership was not what I truly wanted and was not my direction at all. I had to honestly look deep inside myself and face what was there and make the right changes for ME. Rob Kropp helped me with first the questioning of what I was doing, which led to awareness and then a process of action around the clarity it produced. He coached me through mindset changes that have meant I am no longer in cruise mode doing what is safe but am now attacking stuff with purpose to reach my potential.

There will be different benefits for different people from business coaching. My benefits have led me on a journey to no longer wanting a partner and having my own mixed operations business. The journey has now just begun and Rob Kropp helped get me to this point. Where to from here is still uncertain, but I am doing it on my terms following my clarity with better headspace. The basic business processes are still important, but now they are driven by my passion and not a forced cruise mode.

“One of the greatest things holding me back from getting coaching was having to admit fault and also going through the process that is coaching.

At the time when I went through coaching I initially went through the process without my business partner. That was also a concern, raising the issues I had at the time without discussing them with my business partner, which I knew would come up later in the coaching process.

It was not only admitting what those issues were, but also going through the process knowing what was coming in the following months. I am glad I did, because it changed…for the positive.

The greatest benefit from coaching was a huge improvement in my work-life balance. It improved relationships at home with my wife, also with my business partner. I wasn’t as stressed coming to work and doing the big hours.

It made things a lot easier for me, to have some direction and know where I was at that point in time and know where I was going.

That alone eased the stress that I was going through, which allowed me to go on the holidays I wanted to go on, allowed me to get married and created a strong foundation for the business to move forward.

Before starting coaching, staffing was a big issue. Getting clarity on position descriptions, the way we did things as a team around the office and actually setting some firm guidelines for what we would like our staff to do in their roles. As part of that we moved a couple of staff on, bought on some new staff and freed up more time for my business partner and I to focus on what we were best at in the business. It also gave our staff real direction and also allowed us to talk more about where we wanted to go and what our goals were. From the staff’s point of view it has been great for them and from our point of view, obviously we are getting better results.

Another benefit from coaching was an improvement in my communication. I found it very hard being in a franchise and talking to the franchisor about things that were frustrating me. I felt as if we were not being looked after. It was a mindset shift for me to change the way I was communicating to get the result that I wanted without becoming agitated or communicating in a way that didn’t represent me the way I wanted to be represented.

Finally, coaching helped with planning. We did not plan at all. We didn’t know where we wanted to go. We really had no idea of what the business was doing at any point in time and what drove those results.

I would recommend coaching with Rob. It definitely has got a place. It has helped a lot of things not only in business but also outside of the business.

For nothing else, coaching is a good sounding board. Knowing that you are not alone. Knowing that a lot of other businesses go through the same problems. The answers to those problems are generally very simple, but if you don’t take time out of the business to look at those problems, then it makes it difficult to fix those problems and they become big issues. It affects your staff and in my case my business partner and also my home life though my wife and my family.

That is why I would recommend coaching with Rob. It’s definitely a worthwhile process for business people to get involved in, no matter how small the issue you are facing.”

“Any Business owner knows it is challenging to maintain focus and motivation 100% of the time. This is exactly how l was feeling four months ago when l met Rob. We have been in business for over 23 years. Despite its success I didn’t feel that all our hard work was paying off and certainly not reflected in our profit.
